Hey Walmart customers, pay attention! If you bought checked-out food or fruit in bags at Walmart between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, you could get paid a surprise. The skinny: Wal-Mart has agreed to pay $45 million to settle a class-action case. The case says Walmart ripped off customers by charging too much for things like meat, seafood, and bulk bags of citrus.
Walmart is being accused of selling these things for more than the lowest advertised price in stores in a claim that was first made in October 2022. Walmart says they did nothing wrong, but they’ve decided to settle the case to keep things from getting more complicated in court.
This is where things get exciting, though: you might get money from this deal! It’s possible to make a claim if you bought any of the things listed during the time period given. This includes some oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines, as well as pork, chicken, and seafood that has been packed.

The question you may have now is, “What’s in it for me?” It depends, of course. You could get up to 2% of the total cost of each qualifying item, up to a maximum of $500, if you have proof of purchase, like a receipt or some other kind of paper work. No longer have your receipts? Don’t worry! You can still get between $10 and $25, based on how many eligible items you can prove you bought.
It’s easy to file a claim. Just go to the website of the settlement supervisor and send in your claim form by June 5, 2024. Your payment will be sent to you electronically through Venmo, Zelle, ACH, or a virtual pre-paid MasterCard if you are accepted. You can also get paid with paper checks if you’d rather or can’t receive internet payments.

But don’t forget that time is running out! You have until June 5 to send in your claim, and on June 12, there will be a final approval meeting. Do not wait too long to find out if you can get a piece of Walmart’s payment.
Finally, if you’ve ever thought you might have paid too much for food at Walmart, this is your chance to possibly get your money back. It’s a good deal for customers, and Walmart is committed to keeping their everyday cheap prices while this problem is solved peacefully. Would you mind taking a quick look to see if you can get some cash? After all, each dollar is important!
